Auvergne is known for its volcanoes. The most beautiful is the Puy de Dome. You have a unique view of the extinct volcano cones around it. On beautiful clear days, you can create spectacular photos of hang gliders and parapentes. You can even do a duo-jump!

The quality of air and water is pur and ideal to help you with any physical efforts. The tap water is actually

Volcanism and water are also the basis of the various 19th century spas in the area.
La Bourboule and Mont Dore scoring well if you are looking for a beauty treatment, relaxation and massage,or you can have a cure for asthma or eczema.

Auvergne is also a good region to do plenty of excursions and visit little villages.

Description of and distance to ski resorts

There are 3 ski resorts in the area.
Mont Dore: at about half an hour from here. The ski sloops are on the north side of Le Sancy mountain.
A bus connection ,on very regular times and free in winter, brings you between La Bourboule and the ski area Le Mont Dore.

Chastreix: a smaller resort but very cosy and child-friendly. There are not as many sloops, but it's ideal for beginners.
It is located 25 minutes from here.

Superbesse: France's oldest ski resort. It is the largest of the three, facing southwards and well equipped. It is easily accessible. It is located 45 minutes from here. It is a very spacious and pleasant area with plenty of options. We prefer this southern flank of the Massif.

The gite is easy to reach in the winter. The routes are well maintained during the winter.

Culinary and wine

Thursday is market day in the village. A very important day for the local population.
The actual power of the French cuisine lies in the many small local restaurants where the chefs prepare their own recipes with local, fresh ingredients. Tradition and quality score high in the Auvergne region of France.
The kitchen is above all a what (boerse) kitchen: hearty and not too complicated with potato, carrot, turnip,
and onion. Often it all together in a large pot. (Pot au feu, coq au vin, truffade,...)
Also the rivers are the basis of delicious meals. In the Lac Pavin is on gold trout fished. (The Omble Chevalier)
This region of Auvergne has some special cheeses, and forms its own delicious cheese platter:
St Nectaire, Fourme d'Ambert, Bleu d'Auvergne, etc..
Gentiane is an aperitif drink that from the end of the 19th century is brewed by the roots of the yellow gentian plant. The best known brand is Gentiane-Salers. (www.salers-gentiane.com)
But the wines of France remain the standard-bearer. Local wines are St. Pourcain, Cotes d ' Auvergne.
